Lancashire Evening Telegraph Business of the Year Awards 2005

Submission by Marilyn Jones, Training Manager, H.I.Weldrick Ltd.
In support of the nomination of DDAtrainingUK
Nomination in the Training Excellence category

Weldricks is an independent multiple chain of community pharmacies based in Doncaster, employing 450 people and operating throughout South Yorkshire

Weldricks were the first pharmacy chain in the UK to be awarded Investors in People recognition and also hold ISO2001 and a National Training Award.

Working within the healthcare sector and being users of the Employment Service Disability Symbol, we were looking for a company to provide our staff with the information and support needed for them to fully understand and work within the DDA in areas of Employment and Provision of Goods and Services

After research into possible providers, an appointment was set up with DDAtrainingUK. They asked lots of questions about our business so that they could offer us a training proposal that would specifically address our needs. The programme was exactly tailored to match our requirements and a series of one-day instructor led workshops were commissioned. Delegates attending these workshops represented all 45-branch locations and DDAtrainingUK provided comprehensive training materials for them to take back to their individual locations and feedback to colleagues.

In addition, a special half-day workshop was commissioned for members of the Company’s Management Team, which included feedback received from our employees.

In all the programme was a complete success and we are already looking at ways to promote clear DDA/Diversity services to our clients, suppliers and associate organisations.

I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the services of DDAtrainingUK. Their services are professional and courteous from initial enquiry to point of delivery and beyond, and their specialist knowledge in the field of Disability Awareness is second to none.

Bolton Wanderers Football Club

Bolton Wanderers Football Club

Bolton Wanderers Football Club (BWFC) contracted DDAtrainingUK to supply DDA Awareness Training for 70 of our “customer facing” staff and management following an independent audit of BWFC facilities and operational standards relating to disabled access at the Reebok Stadium.

DDAtrainingUK’s workshop style training, focussed on creating a comprehensive awareness & knowledge of the DDA, and the statutory obligations for us as a business, a service provider and an employer. The workshop’s facilitated the cross-fertilisation of best practice policies, ideas and practices between staff and management representing our various departments, resulting in proactive DDA action planning at individual, departmental and group levels.

The workshops have developed a clearer understanding of the compliance requirements under the DDA and have also reinforced BWFC’s commitment to maximising the social and business benefits resulting from equal accessibility, equal opportunity and equal service standards.

In addition, on a consultancy basis, DDA training UK have refreshed our existing policy & procedures documentation to incorporate a Diversity Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy and Disability Discrimination Policy, so that we adhere to the requirements of government legislation.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with DDA training UK for further training and future initiatives, and I recommend their services to you.
